Hey guys, so I’m a commodity manager at Intel, recent college grad. I’d say my compensation is adequate enough (still upset I was told Intel wouldn’t negotiate college grad positions), but I’m just not liking it. Granted I’ve been in the role for only 2 months now (with an internship in the same type of role).

I’m thinking I’d like sales and don’t even know where to begin to look.

Any warnings? Advice? Where to start? The only thing id like to stay consistent is being in tech.

Don’t they have a rotation within NCG program? like 6 months in one role and so on? Regardless, this role will put you into supply chain domain. Since you are beginning your career my 2 cents, supply chain will easily hit a ceiling in terms of compensation and learning trajectory.

      OP
By NCG are you referring to new college grad? If so, they replaced it with “RCG” recent to replace new for inclusivity I guess.

But, there was no supply chain rotation offered anymore. I came in as an SLM as most supply chain majors do, and switched to CM because of my internship.

The compensation and learning trajectory concerns you mentioned is something that’s been on my mind too. It seems like everyone around me does really well at their job, but because they’ve been in the same part of the industry forever.

Well semiconductor has lot of people in the job for over 10-20 yrs so that’s that. Secondly, as long as sales is concerned, please remember that from a skills and learning perspective it won’t be drastically different. Rather you’ll be in more pressure in sales. Sales or purchasing/commodities…you are on the hook to ensure your commodity/account is in the best shape. So please think twice before choosing sales. Now there are functional supply chain roles like planning, scheduling or purchasing which u can explore but they easily hit a ceiling in terms of learning and comp. Sorry i am not giving a solution but just a perspective as i worked in supply chain in semiconductor industry.
