Hi Folks,

Please comment about the WFH policy in your company. I think everyone knows about Apple :)

Also what do you think for long term, is remote work sustainable or not?

  • Hybrid approach is the way to go. Flex every day, with required in office one or two days a week

    • For Microsoft the baseline is 50% at the office (unlike others, it's not 3/2, it can be alternating 3/2 and 2/3). But you can apply for full remote with your manager and CVP approval. I know several people who did this, before and during Covid.

      Hybrid approach doesn’t work.
It has to be either way. You create conflict if you have hybrid and processes are not concrete.

Amazon SDM need to stare at SDEs' back all the time. Office work is the only way to go.

  • Full remote will sustain because it is beneficial for both employers and employees. Companies just need to build proper culture and bring everyone together at least every quarter for a few days or a week.

Facebook and Netflix (and to some extent Google) will have full remote employees in addition to hybrid.

      OP
Is the majority going to be hybrid? For google I heard 20% will be remote. For FB Netflix I heard you need special approval but I’m not sure how true, hence this post.

IMO hybrid is perfect. Gives the option to flex or just maintain long-term WFH. Shouldn’t really matter where you work from as long as you deliver, been a debate for years pre-covid. I personally plan to WFH Mon/Fri and WFO T-Tr. I’ll work hard 3 days a week in the office and do nothing on Mon/Fri from home. Win-win-win.

Hybrid approach works only if everybody is either WFH or WFO the same days.

    • Why? You'll still end up with tons of overlap if people are in 3 days a week. And can do mandatory WFO for specific days for group meetings or whatever.
