Are companies like Lambda school making software engineering jobs into trade jobs?

With the rise of companies like hack reactor and Lambda school, you are seeing more software engineers without a degree. This is essentially providing more programmers into the market than we have seen In the past 10 years.

Do you see any benefits and disadvantages from having software engineering become a trade skill?

First benefit I see is: not go into debt by attending uni.

disadvantage: TC will significantly get lower as more programmers become available and the s.e. becomes a trade job

  • Do you want software engineering become civil engineering? You can only practice unless you pass an exam like the bar for lawyers?

    • Leetcode doesn’t test practical expertise. It is appropriate for new grads but doesn’t meet the mark for experienced engineers. In addition, the evaluation is ongoing and inconsistent. Leetcode is the equivalent of asking that a specialized MD take the generic board exams every time they switch hospitals, except the exams aren’t written, questions are open ended and evaluators are often have less experience than the candidate

@ai-mee chill, I'm being sarcastic. I definitely see the irony of it becoming such a prevalent entrance test. Sadly, that's the world we live in.

The maximum they can do is frontend engineering. They can hardly pass system design interviews. No need to worry, unless your niche is frontend.
