Depends on org, I honestly feel like they are easier than senior ones, at least for me as they focus a lot on design

@dalamander: Thanks for the reply. Usually what's the process for Staff position (And what is usually expected in the initial phone screen for this position) ?

If I know the exact process I can go back and ask the recruiter or the recruiting coordinator to check if it can be arranged. I just don't want to screw the chances just because of the 1 initial technical phone screen. I am confident in systems design , domain knowledge and general coding as at my work I spend good amount of time in designing. But I haven't practiced LC style questions.

Hi, Can I know what is expected in the initial phone screen for Staff Software Engineer position ? I wasn't expecting to have initial 1 hr coding phone screen for this level. But recruiter scheduled the 1 hr phone screen with S/W Eng-1

Phone screen is possible with coding round. Usually pretty simple and low bar

  • Just finished my virtual on-site. 2 X initial interviews with medium style, very reasonable questions. But expect the nuances cases to be discussed in-depth and provide solutions to it. You donโ€™t have to solve everything but being able to make it that far.

On sites have a domain-specific coding challenge which depends on your domain of interests. Your teammates will actually conduct this interviews so itโ€™s nice. Then thereโ€™s another design interview that is also domain-specific. You are expected to touch every aspect of the systems both at a high level and a low level when necessary. You should be able to call out the trade offs understand the technologies, the algorithms or the names of the related services involved.

Then the last one is with the hiring manager. They dove into more specifics about what you did, what went well, what went wrong and how you handled it. They also discussed your working style in more details, and see if itโ€™s a good fit for the team and the scope they had in mind, etc.

2X initial interviews you mean 2 rounds of 1hr long telephonic ? Are they both coding ? Are they both Twitter tagged on LC ?
