how do you like it? recently spoke with BP their culture seems very laid back.
Exxon is kindof uptight
Rating and ranking is annoying af, constantly worried about where you place and your managers have to argue on your behalf to place you on the bell curve
I didn’t know they had a ranking system like that hmm. I am planning on applying to Exxon probably this weekend either way, hoping for the best.
DO NOT GO TO OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY- they are behind on their tech and the culture is very conservative. Yes the pay is nice but pay will get old
I understand where you are coming from but where I’m located we mostly just get oil and gas companies coming out here. But yea you are right I’m keeping my options open. How do you like Chevron? I recently had a little impromptu interview with them on campus.
Chevron is probably the most open minded oil and gas company out there. There is a 5% chance you’ll have a cool software engineering project though. You’ll learn a lot of Azure. But still you can do better! Leetcode leetcode and apply somewhere else. You have the Apple badge. Get out of Houston if you wanna do tech. Look at Austin or DFW
I see, I’m going to try my best to get a couple of offers but I’m really going for Chevron aswell since they are pretty close to where I am. Are you in their downtown Houston office?
I work at BP, DM me for any questions
Exxon is very slow and way too many politics it's very hard to move up the ladder. To avoid the politics I left my FTE role to work as CWF
ExxonMobil IT here... don't come unless you love Houston (which means you are crazy). Most solid technical folks I know are wanting to move to FAANG.
Exact same vibes in Chevron... these O&G companies trick you, but all their good talent will leave eventually
