I am currently a P4( 2 years work ex) at Atlassian Bangalore office. I just got an offer to pursue masters in Computer Science at University of California, Irvine.
Considering majority of students start as a fresher after masters in US. Is doing a master's a backward step in your career?
I also read that Atlassian doesn't sponser stating H1B visa or give internship to students on F1 visa which means I won't be able to join back here as P4
If I work more for 3 more years(at Atlassian or switch to something equivalent), I should be promoted to the next level (expected but not sure) whereas if I join as fresher after masters, I would be running for the same position that I had 3 years back. #tech
#masters #atlassian
Can everyone please post their reasoning in the comment section. It would be very helpful

But one thing about masters in US, it’s just an entry point into the US. In terms of education, it’s useless for how much you’re gonna spend. Much better off learning way more at a real job which you’re already doing.
If you are genuinely interested in research or moving to US eventually, go for Masters. It is an excellent opportunity and you would regret staying in India after a few years. Once you get married, moving for masters would be a lot more difficult even if you get a better opportunity.
Even if you are not interested in research or settling in US, it’s a great opportunity. If financial burden is not a concern, there is no harm in spending two years for masters. You could explore more opportunity. Get into a good company, earn money and come back after 1-2 years. It might seem a lot right now but assuming you live till 75 years, a total loss of 3-4 years is nothing. Also, TC in India might be good for someone returning from US.
Thank You!
I am also inclining towards going for masters. Can you also tell me what is TC? I am not familiar with acronym
It is what it is.
But, in the longer if you feel MS is too much of a financial burden to take on, stay back, switch teams on an L1.
All the best!
