Got an offer from Viasat, SWE with a specialty. Salary: $112,000 Sign on: $5000 RSU: $8000 over four years HR said I did very well during the interview. Coming out with a masters degree in ECEN, part time experience largely irrelevant with a startup (under 1 year some part time, some full time) Working on getting remote job approval from manager, no current competing offers. Any tips on if I should negotiate? #swe #offer
How many YOE? Did they tell you what Level you are?
I did not see a level associated with the position, I can ask HR. I am a new grad so like 6 months of experience professionally but some companies consider masters as 2YOE
They assume you're going to try and negotiate. I would tell them you need 115 because ____. Alternatively, ask for more stock as Viasat typically doesn't pay well in RSUs. It's a cheap buy right now. (Almost $100 a couple years ago)
Location?
They want me to move to Carlsbad. Some of the team is there, some remote
Ran a few numbers based on my offer, historical inflation, and COL. I think you should go for 117-120K, possibly higher. They might say no, but they won’t rescind the offer
That was almost exactly equal to my offer 2 years ago but I got 10k in sign on so I'd be willing to bet you could up that. I negotiated a little to get to those numbers but I am guessing you could get higher today
If you have visa issues, take it and look for something else. This is undergrad SWE salary in LCOL area
US citizen, looking to work remote in US
You can get much more dude. Take it if funds are low and keep looking.
