Heath insurance between jobs

I've always heard it's best to leave a company at a certain time in the month so that you don't go without heath insurance between jobs. Is this true? If so, how does it work?

  • It depends on companies. For some the health insurance ends once you leave the company and for others they end at the end of the month.
You have the option of cobra coverage. You can take it when you aren't employed. It's costly. The best part is it is backdated. That means you can sign up today 03/18 saying you need the coverage from 03/01. This way if you think any medical expenses are gonna be costlier than the coverage you can take it. If not just don't take it

  • There are companies, like Microsoft, that end medical benefits the day you leave. Ask HR if you can use a vacation day on the first day of your new job so that medical can carry over the weekend in that case, from experience.

  • From what I know insurance ends end of month. So if you leave say the 10th of the month you have 20 more days
