I'm joining Meta soon and relocating to London from Berlin. Currently I have a German Blue Card that lets me travel to Schengen areas without a visa. (holding Indian passport)

Obviously before moving to London I'll have to give away my blue card.
How can I travel to Schengen areas(Germany mainly) after that? Is it possible to get a long term 5 year tourist visa or something?

Usually the blue card permit is valid for four years. So if you some time left on that then you can visit freely. But there's no long-term visa based on that. Even the pr expires if you stay out of Germany for more than 6 months

The blue card is tied to your employment at the specific company. So, if you are no longer an employee, technically the blue card isn't valid. Although there is a 3 month grace period for searching jobs.

  • You can apply for German PR. However, you need a bank account here. My friend left Germany, and he lost his PR because of that.
Btw, congratulations on your offer. I'm also living in Berlin, and my partner and I are trying to move to an English-speaking country.

The PR will also get cancelled when you move out of the country. I've been living here since 3 years.

If you've been in Germany for a few years already, I think that you can apply for a EU permanent resident card before leaving Germany. In France the process took 3 weeks for me.

But that'll get invalid since I'm moving to UK, which is now outside EU. The PR is only valid untill we're living in the EU
