How fast is Dropbox career growth? Are the promos as fast as FB or moreso like Google and the rest? Also are there specific teams that are preferred or more in demand at Dropbox (esp in terms of promo and career growth)?

  • Promo in my org is pretty fast. Lots of interesting projects that I never got to work on at fang. If you’re interested in owning bigger projects that you drive from start to finish, we can offer that to you.
Lots of good teams here - new businesses, mobile, security, core sync, storage, file system

Dropbox requires you to be at the company and/or in your current role for a year in order to qualify for promo. So if you are under leveled at start, the soonest you’ll get a promo is a year out.

Do you have to perform insane for these times or is this the standard length? Cuz this is somewhat on par with FB promo speed no?

I don’t think long hours are required as long as you’re strategic with project selection and distribution of skills

In my experience here so far IC1 -> IC2, IC2 -> IC3 is pretty fast and easy. IC3 and above gets tricky. The focus is not just on impact/execution but on cross team/org influence, up-leveling others.

I am curious too but from what I hear promos is very slow due to lack of impactful projects in the roadmap. Want to hear what folks in Dropbox have to say
