How fast is Dropbox career growth? Are the promos as fast as FB or moreso like Google and the rest? Also are there specific teams that are preferred or more in demand at Dropbox (esp in terms of promo and career growth)? #engineering #software #swe #career #Dropbox

How is the Dropbox culture and WLB?
Culture and WLB the best of the best
Promo in my org is pretty fast. Lots of interesting projects that I never got to work on at fang. If you’re interested in owning bigger projects that you drive from start to finish, we can offer that to you. Lots of good teams here - new businesses, mobile, security, core sync, storage, file system
Thanks for the input! What org are you in? I really want to work at an org where I’m able to get promo faster. I heard core it’s harder to get promoted.
Core sync is harder to get promoted in from what I hear. Any of the other should be easier to get promoted. The most I’ll say about my org is that it’s among the above orgs :)
Dropbox requires you to be at the company and/or in your current role for a year in order to qualify for promo. So if you are under leveled at start, the soonest you’ll get a promo is a year out.
Ohh I see, what’s the average amount of years it takes to go from IC1 to IC2?
You could do it in 1-2 years if incoming new grad
In my experience here so far IC1 -> IC2, IC2 -> IC3 is pretty fast and easy. IC3 and above gets tricky. The focus is not just on impact/execution but on cross team/org influence, up-leveling others.
Kinda reiterating what OP is asking above, is it possible to get promoted from 2 to 3 within 1.5 years without working extra long hours
Should be doable

Who are these retards asking for dictatorship in India?
I am curious too but from what I hear promos is very slow due to lack of impactful projects in the roadmap. Want to hear what folks in Dropbox have to say
