Interview preparation guidance for Electrical Engineering positions

Dec 7, 2020 8 Comments

Posting for a friend: My friend is currently a Design and Verification Engineer with < 1 YOE at Sony and looking for new opportunities at top tier companies in Hardware Industry.

What are the top tier companies for entry level Digital Design Verification Engineer/ Verification Engineer or ASIC Design Engineer positions?

Additionally what resources do you recommend to crack the interviews in those companies? Is there something like Leetcode for Hardware Engineering as well 😉?

TIA!

  • ASIC design is really hard because like you said, there aren’t a lot of online resources. There’s a Cracking the VLSI Interview book that’s really good. Also, a LOT of places will ask data structure and algorithm questions for verification interviews, so make sure to do leetcode mediums and some hards. Udemy was very useful for me but their courses are more focused on ASIC design and back-end.

    • Microsoft asked me leetcode mediums about data structures and algorithms when I interviewed for silicon verification. Apple asked inheritance and polymorphism. Nvidia asked leetcode easy and mediums. All of them were hardware interviews that still asked coding questions. This usually only happens for verification interviews though.
