Stripe Interview Advice?

Feb 13 8 Comments

Hi, I am interviewing with Stripe and I am really excited about the opportunity and would like to give myself as much of an opportunity to do well as possible.

I had an initial call which seemed like it was positive. It was actually with an engineering manager as their recruiters are swamped apparently. He was extremely nice and seemed like the kind of person who would be great to work with.

He offered to be available by email for any questions so I am thinking of asking him what I am asking here — how can I prepare to give myself the best chance of succeeding or at least just representing my skills well? I know the process is not LC and more working through building something so less easy to prepare for, but are there some common pitfalls that I might keep in mind?

    • Hey, best of luck! I thought some of the existing threads were not too helpful but I checked again after the first comment I got here and some are a bit more informative than I thought at first glance.

My main focus so far is to really hone in on testing in the interview. It also sounds like there may be an expectation or at least just an advantage for you to be ready to pull up your own IDE and share screen rather than just using the CoderPad.

yea i would suggest that for the screener and for certain on-site rounds it’s required.

  • Apply to other stuff as well. Otherwise you may get oneitis for stripe and be heartbroken

    • For sure, I am. I just want to experiment how much it might help to add in some practice that is targeted at a particular company rather than just general LC + system design prep. The interview process has been beating me up if I’m being honest so trying to change my approach and just learn from the failures more thoughtfully.

  • If you want to work in HR, you will need to be white and female. That was my experience last week after being rejected. The interviewer could care less about me and this was noticeable from the very first question. She was very cold, came across as arrogant and had an attitude (I told her Happy Monday and her reply was "what is there to be happy about").
