Has anyone taken a year ‘off’? I want to leave my current job, but in looking for a new one it’s made me realize I want time off to pursue hobbies and other interests.
Have you hired someone even though they have a gap?
I’m concerned about the resume gap etc.
I’ve been working for 20 yrs straight, high performer, etc. I keep thinking- what if I die and never get to use any of my retirement savings? Why not enjoy a mid-career break to re-evaluate and refresh?

Go for it man. You wont regret it later.
I took an year break for traveling. Best. Decision. Ever.
I have been thinking of doing the same since along time, now that I have green card.
I used to work as consultant 7-8 years back. I would work for 6 months, take a break and then work again. My resume has 3 months gap during those years.
Just that it will take 2-3 months extra when you actually start looking for job. So my 6 months break might look like 8-9 months break in my resume.
