Want to get a sense of how much scope Google L5 has. Currently a L3 at RH. Accordingly to levels.fyi, RH L3 goes beyond Google L5, but I've seen Google L5 get staff elsewhere, but haven't seen RH L3 get FAANG staff. I get advancement beyond google L5 is challenging, but can the experience help one's overall career advancement, and help get to higher levels elsewhere? G offer Base/bonus/equity/signon 210/31/525/50 sign I was disappointed with the numbers since I'm seeing 500-600k offers for seniors, but I've also seen a lot of downleveling from G so maybe I should be happy about the level. I had a competing offer in the 500's, but G refused to budge. Current TC ~380, dropped from 470 With front loading, 1year TC is 460, but massive drops in year 3 and 4. The TC difference isn't large, but the I'm losing faith in RH business model and the mission. Yoe: ~6 I expect a lot of Non-googlers bashing, but would really appreciate perspective from Google folks.
Refreshers make it up for year 3 and 4 but still shop around.
Have you factored in refreshers at Google? They might get you over the 500k tc mark
People are mentioning refreshers. I've seen the amount to be 100k, and the recruiter said 20 - 50%, which would be way less.
Refreshers in California and New York is 115k (over 4y) at meets expectations for L5 SWE.
Why not accept the 500s offer?
It was at a less well known place. Was surprised they went that high. The offer structure was a bit unorthodox which also made the negotiation harder. Wasn't sure how much I would grow.
I think Google L5 would be a very good move for you even if you stay for 2 years. The business is rock solid, stock has a lot of upside left, the tech is best in the industry to learn, and the boost to your career would be pretty big. Google gives decent refreshers too.
Seems like a good L5 package. I’m coming in at L6 at 244/48.8/693/50 sign for comparison. I was hoping for around 800 equity but recruiter insisted this was their best and final offer and I had no competing offers.
Don't go to Google just for the name. Check if your team is working on something that interests you and impactful for the org. When you come out of Google L5, your skillset will determine if you can go to staff elsewhere not your name id. Unless, that said company is a bottom feeder. Also, keep in mind that with level of mass hiring that is currently happening at Google, name id wouldn't be the same by the time you come out.
