    • Every body has their own preferences op. Their is no price one can put on experience of a genuine relationship which it sounds like is the case here.

Coming from a much older and experienced person, been married for over two decades, If I could go back and redo it given your parameters, it's definitely worth it.

Doesn't mean you have to go broke paying for it. But if it's comfortably payable and you see the value, the emotional impact is something that would last way longer than what 20k would.

I'm a girl here and same as your girlfriend I always wanted fancy ring. I used to tell my husband, I don't care about anything else I just want a decent ring. Went to cartier we choose it together, ventage elegant ring cost him around 9k. Today most of the time I don't even wear my engagement ring and I wear only my simple wedding ring. So bottom line you are taking an emotional decision 20k is way to much, 10k could gey u a v beautiful ring from cartier or Tiffany

I see most people think this is a bad decision. I believe everything in life is investment.
I am willing to invest 20k on the lady who I have known for past 9 years. I am pretty confident it's a good investment.

I see people losing a lot more money on stock market day trading etc.

Also I have 389k saved for home. So I am good there as well.

    • My husband bought me a $15k Tiffany cut 1.5c round solitaire more than 14 years ago. I love it. I love him. I love our kids. I love our life. I didnโ€™t need the ring for the love, but he wanted me to have it, which makes me love it even more.

Buy her what you want her to have. Thatโ€™s what matters. (But urge you against blood diamonds.)

your idea of relationship is quite sad dude... you're not buying your wife stock here. and if your wife needs expensive stuff to remain in your company, she will just jump ship at the next best total compensation offer...

  • Why not spend it on a crazy honeymoon instead

  • In two days my wife and I will be sharing our 25th wedding anniversary. One of my big regrets is that I did not get my her a rediculous engagement ring and/or a big wedding. They are intentionally impractical expenditures to show her that she is more than just a "practical choice."

Romance means all else goes away. If you can remove the practical notion from this purchase decision and it feels right to you, you should do it!

My 21 year old daughter is getting engaged this year and get boyfriend is searching for an engagement ring. I love that it is going to be more than he can afford. It means that he is willing to sacrifice something here in an attempt to make her feel special.
