How are computer vision and machine learning groups at Pinterest?

What kind of problems are you guys working on,
is it exciting (compared to CV at self driving companies, FAIR, MS research, Google)
how is WLB and overall culture?
How big is the team and how much impact do you have on the product overall?

  • Pinterest is different than research groups like FAIR, MSR, or Google Research in that we are much more applied and smaller. You can browse the types of problems we work on here (https://labs.pinterest.com/publications/ ) and here (https://medium.com/pinterest-engineering/machine-learning/home ).

We have a very small team but the flip-side is there is a lot of ownership over high impact applied projects. The blog post gives a sense of the systems and models we build (not just in CV). The core CV problems we face are in Visual Search, Visual Shopping, Detection, Embeddings & Metric Learning, etc. If you're interested I'm not sure if we're hiring but you can check out our careers page.

  • I don’t think the CV work at Pinterest is even comparable to those companies in your list. If you care about technical depth of the work, you should not join.
