If you do decide on a BMW and you're looking for value you should contact Tesla about a resale bargain. bmw 3-series is our #1 most common trade in on the 3 since 2018, reseller networks are flooded with them.
Not sure the deals you'd get but the 3 series specifically is a grossly outsized trade in so the high supply would probably create opportunity.
Both are vehicles with pros and cons, but they are incredibly different vehicles. This should be obvious if you’ve ever sat in both much less driven them.
If you want an electric car that’s not going to need much maintenance and doesn’t care about gasoline prices, buy the Tesla. Your techie friends will think it’s cool and you might love it too.
On the other hand, if you care about fit and finish, or at least an interior that doesn’t look like it was designed by a 1 YOE CAD jockey (and I’m not even talking about the dash) then get the BMW. Your seats won’t feel like they are made of thin cardboard, and the general creature comforts will be substantially better. It’ll cost more to maintain, but that might be ok.
Frankly I think having a crummy first car is a rite of passage too, but I’m assuming you’re well past the poor college kid stage in your finances.
