saying “no” to Amazon?

after a fairly antagonistic interview with Amazon last week, I somehow got an offer today...at $15k less than current TC. And at a lower level. And with a probable reduction in scope—though this is hard to compare because Amazon’s scope can be considerable. So, obviously I reject this. The question is if I should elaborate why, or simply say that I am not inclined. Not ruling Amazon out in the future thus do not want to burn bridges. Current TC: $300k Amazon offer: $285k EDIT: I told them my exact TC with breakdown before the on-site was scheduled. And then repeated it to the recruiter during the prep call.

Saying no to unlimited 🍌🍌🍌?

Google tUlh65 Dec 17, 2019

What is the story behind bananas?

Bloomberg hvf37d Dec 17, 2019

Speaking seriously you should negotiate for a higher TC if you like the job.

Microsoft MgIr74 Dec 17, 2019

100% don’t do it. Why would you take a pay cut?

TripAdvisor hFPC60 Dec 18, 2019

Upside in stock value over time? I'm losing money at my current employer 😢

Facebook _JianYang_ Dec 18, 2019

If you I think the stock will go up, keep your higher TC and buy Amazon stock.

Just say this exact same thing to your recruiter. They may change the offer if they learn about your current TC.

Salesforce DildoTower OP Dec 17, 2019

Oh they new my current TC. That’s why I just laughed when I got the offer today.

Amazon suchfrugal Dec 18, 2019

Maybe that's the HM's limit for org/headcount reasons

Capital One QUVM71 Dec 17, 2019

Why not make a counter offer? Also, what's the position?

Salesforce DildoTower OP Dec 17, 2019

UX. Will try a counter :-) one never knows.

Amazon triggered Dec 18, 2019

$300k for UX? Are you a director?

Amazon _Hokage_ Dec 17, 2019

“I appreciate the offer. Unfortunately, after careful consideration I have decided not to proceed with my candidacy. I encourage you to reach out in the future for any new opportunities.”

Salesforce DildoTower OP Dec 17, 2019

Obvious as this advice you’ve shared might seem, it’s really helpful. Thanks!

Microsoft Demos0923B Dec 18, 2019

Well worded and very professional.

Facebook 1.4142135 Dec 17, 2019

If the interview was antagonistic imagine what working there must be like.

Capco dmodemd Dec 17, 2019

Yeah, if not a team you can work well with, then no. I actually liked my interviewers. They were very helpful!

Capco dmodemd Dec 17, 2019

Their initial offer is always way low. You can usually come up 30%. What level, role, loc is that?

Amazon readme.q Dec 17, 2019

Not true I got a top of the band offer as the initial offer - but they knew I was awaiting responses from other faang So really depends on situation

Salesforce DildoTower OP Dec 17, 2019

It’s an L6 (senior) ux role. Seattle.

Amazon ccgdr01d Dec 17, 2019

Amazon will try to place you into a lower band-“everyone” gets this treatment coming in. Lower comp is a hard one however. Did you give “low numbers” when they indicated that an offer was on the way perhaps?

E*Trade cbEV72 Dec 17, 2019

Maybe amzn didn’t know his current salary

Salesforce DildoTower OP Dec 17, 2019

No, I told them my current compensation in detail—my base is 210k, which is 50k over AMZN’s cap in Seattle. I can live with a lower base, but I of course want equal TC.

A9 NiiSama Dec 17, 2019

Burn the bridge. Amazon is a ship waiting to sink. Pretty soon those guys will reach out to you for referral help.

E*Trade cbEV72 Dec 17, 2019

For help? What is OP, Warren buffet or something?

A9 NiiSama Dec 17, 2019

Maybe they want a referral to work in Salesforce. So yes, I'd imagine people who want to work in Salesforce will hit up OP on Linkedin or indirectly via Repher.me.

Amazon trwe334te Dec 17, 2019

It doesn't matter, they'll still reach out for other positions regardless
