Google LA Office

Trying to decide between working at headquarters in MTV or the LA office. MTV has the most projects and visibility, but I interned in the south bay last summer and didn't like it.

Would love to live in LA, but I'm not sure if it'd be a disadvantage to work at one of the smaller remote offices. Is there a decent variety of teams there and enough opportunities to make impact for promotions?

    Seattle for the money and nature.
    Earn/save more and fly to LA every weekend on the change, plus may do some business trips.

      No need to be an asshole, new grads are the future seniors unless you figured out how to cure Alzheimer's and death.

    The LA office is nice, but I do second the lack of options in terms of teams. Have you considered the SF office?

      Does it get tiring commuting between SF and the South bay for meetings, etc? Seems to take over an hour to do so.

      Yes that commute kills people. There are some teams that go down to meet their sister teams once a week. My team is all locally based in SF. I go to Mountain View 2-3 days a year.

    Seattle has similar pay but no state tax and lower CoL.

      But Seattle has gloomy weather and people don't talk. It's like taking a $100k pay increase to go work in Alaska.

      Seattle is awesome in May-Sept.
      Other times it’s just a matter of 2 hrs flight to BA/LA to enjoy the sun and ocean. Even if you do it every weekend during winter time, it’s still less than the pay difference between CA and WA.

    Op, what did you decide? I’m facing the same problem right now :) MTV for example San Jose for living has this smaller city vibe, better apartments, I think maybe less tourists and homeless people too, traffic is true for both LA and MTV...
