Which big high tech companies build Java applications with Maven?

I know in Amazon we don’t, I think Google doesn’t too, what about the other bigs?

Is any Apple team using it? And in Microsoft? Or any other FAANG?

I ask because the most satisfying thing I could experience as a Software Engineer is to architect modular applications, and I know how to do when I can use Java, Maven and hopefully Karaf.

There is a single book that captures all this satisfaction of mine and it is https://www.amazon.com/dp/0321247132/

I’d rather stop being a developer than not using Maven in my next job, if I meet you at an interview and you tell me your team uses it, I’ll fall in love!

So, can you share me your team’s insight so I can dream of world better than Brazil (I’m not talking of the country 😅) exists?

  • I am admittedly young, but I find Java so annoying to work with. If you're stating from scratch it isn't a very compelling language for a lot of things imo.

    • I have about 5 years of pro experience, I'm not a student or anything. I just don't see much there that can't be done in a more modern, flexible language, be it Go, Python, or even another JVM language like Kotlin

    • If you don’t like Java code in C++. After few months you will like Java a lot more 😂. I used to work in Java, now working in C++

  • Java or anything built on the JVM is a career limiting move. Learn something proper and broaden your technical horizon.

Compilers are really good nowadays…why build on top of a fucking interpreter?

Look into Go(lang), Rust and yes, even C++.

  • Wow. Maven reminds me of 2000s. The world has moved on. If you aren't flexible and move on to newer and more advanced tech, you will get pushed out of this industry.

    • You maybe right. But that's how most cumbersome tech gets out of favor. As others commented, ppl moved to Gradle for a reason. Maven might still be used, but in legacy projects. So if u r ok doing maintenance projects, u can find something. But if you need newer, interesting projects, no one starts with maven anymore.

  • Java succeeded because of wrote once run anywhere with c/c++ and others as competitors. Now you have many proven options. I’m hopeful Java will succeed to generation because it’s becoming more functional rather than being oops.
