Offer evaluation advice: Salesforce vs startup - stay or go?

Mar 27, 2021 4 Comments

Hello everyone! first time poster here. I'm caught between two minds and I'm looking for some advice from the community.

I have an offer from a profitable East Coast based startup valued at 4bn+ (Recently went through a Series C funding round) for a Director of Engineering role. I am currently a Senior Engineering manager at Salesforce (East Coast). I like my current job and team, and I was only casually looking to start with and this role somehow worked out. The new role is in a different area and I will have to put in a lot of effort to be successful. If I stay on at Salesforce I can expect to become a Director in 12-18 months. I also have around 130k unvested stock with hopefully another 50-60k coming in next week as a refresher.

Offer details: 280k base (no bonus)
750k in RSU over 4 years
Sign-on bonus - 20k
Company "expects" to IPO in 12-24 months

YOE - 4 at Salesforce/16 total
Current TC: (Base + bonus + stock) - 280k

EDIT: For those selecting "Negotiate for a better offer" below, I'd really appreciate it if you could please drop a comment suggesting what you think would be a good offer
