My wife is working for the same US client via the same India-based service company for more than 10 years in Atlanta (this is her first job). She hates her work now and would like to try somewhere. The majority of the time, her tasks revolve around analyzing, solving code issues, bug fixing, triaging kind of logical roles more than actual coding - she is a backend/java developer by the name tag. She's been working on old tech stacks for years now. Despite managing her dev tasks well, she didn't seem to be enjoying them. Unfortunately, her project team put her in defect management/maintenance types of roles for the majority of her tenure.
In the beginning, she enjoyed like solving the puzzle and did a great job - obviously, the reward for the good work is always more work thus she ends up spending much of her time around these. She seems to be the best one to do the defects management in her current project though. She solves any logical problems way quicker and smarter than me. Every time she gets frustrated and seeks a new job, the damn H1B visa situations holds her one way or another.
Now she is adamant want to go away from her current company. I feel bad that I m unable to guide her on a proper path since I know nothing about IT ladder. She is confused about what to pursue now
- brush her Java and backend tech stack (she feels there are tons to catch up) and aim for reg SW dev roles
- (or) figure out any roles/title specifically require her current interest (After all, maybe this her strength - logical code issues solving, debug, refractor, and so on) - what type of roles should she target in this case?
- (or) leave everything and learn one or a few new (suggestions plz) tools/tech
- (or) take a whole different route like PM or Product Owner
She also seems to have an interest in UI design.
Her TC - peanuts
No better place to ask this one other than Blind Family. Kindly suggest
