Disclaimer : I'm not cheap, I just order from Uber eats almost daily and I realized this only recently that my costs are adding up insanely. Uber eats adds tip on total total inflated amount of seattle fee (which in itself is hazard pay for drivers) , their fees and taxes and everything else. So for a 22$ meal their recommended tip of even 15% often comes to 7-8$! Which is insane. Since last two days I've started editting their tip to truly calculate tip on the amount before all Uber eats fees and so on.

Am I being cheap? If yes, I'm probably not going to order as much from Uber eats and will haul my ass out of bed - since I would rather not order If I can't afford it. It almost doubles the tip if my denominator is the entire amount.

I think it should be a flat tip regardless of amount. It's literally the same amount of effort regardless of the price. I tip on time and distance.

That's a great thought. I always used to think it should depend on effort /time /distance - but I saw a massive hate post on reddit where drivers hate on customers who order say 50$ worth of food (irrespective of distance) and tip 5$. I thought maybe it's time to update my thinking. I also usually use to increase tip amount on holidays, rain days etc. And even adjust if I request them to come to my apartment vs if I went down to pick it up. I'm confused thoroughly now

More food means the driver often has to wait longer at the restaurant for it to prepped. Also salty drivers might steal your food after seeing the top and dollar amount.

Tip 3-5. Tipping on percentage for delivery is very stupid
