How is GCP different from the rest of Google? I hear GCP engineers hate it there and thats it’s tough to switch to the rest of google. Is that true?

Most of GCP is also built atop TI
If this was not complicated enough, a lot of search and ads infra teams are also part of cloud. But YouTube and Maps infra is not part of cloud.
To make it EVEN more complex, Gmail, Drive and gSuite are all part of cloud too.
We love to make our org structure impossible to understand. Some day Google AI will get smart enough to parse it 🤪
Switching at google is same across orgs and you wont be held back becayde you worked in GCP, but of course hm look for relevant skills leanred.
