which team you recommend?

Culture is super entitled and whiny, been getting worse over time. People now would rather squabble over political correctness or something some employee took offense to rather than actually discussing important business decisions at our all hands. To be perfectly frank: unless you're in Cash then don't expect to have people recognize your contributions, especially in the Seller org. Salary is not comparable to FAANG, no bonuses exist and yearly refreshers are abysmal if you're comparing to Google. Traditionally Square has relied on the stock value increasing as a "comp adjustment". Now that the stock has flatlined I expect the TC to start going way down. Honestly I think Square is on its way out. There's not really any more innovation, growth is decelerating faster than expected, and we have no plans in action for international markets while PayPal gets first dibs on Europe. Jack Dorsey doesn't care about the core company anymore and solely focuses on Cash.

Can't agree more... Which is sad for other teams...

What about data infrastructure team at square?

Data infra is a great team. Square is overall still a fantastic tier b company. I joined from faang too. No complaints but it depends on what you are looking for

What's your definition of tier B & A? And do you see Square be Tier A?

Square bokor11 Oct 10, 2019

My categorization is roughly: tier a: fb, goog, apple, amazon and ms(including linkedin). Tier b is much more fluid and a longer list. Companies that come to mind: uber, netflix, snap, twitter, square, pinterest etc. I usually consider the combination of influence, eng reputation, eng org size, product, market cap, brand as defining characteristics (i tend to exclude pre ipo companies as startups are so different with way less visibility in general). Obviously it’s subjective. TLDR Square is tier b
