Work environment got very toxic and it was affecting my mental health. Didn't leetcode or prepare, directly went for an MS phone screen and didn't go as well as i would have if I'd prepared. They are calling me onsite for "senior software engineer" for two teams, one in Azure and one in the AI org. I'm LMTS at Salesforce and was looking to interview at principal.. 1) how does leveling work at MS? what is senior? 2) do they decide the level during interview process or are you interviewed for the level they specify with no scope of going higher 3) should I take the first offer I get or plan my exit more carefully, and longer term? maybe after more interview preparation My current situation is insufferable. Team mates were being bullying earlier this year and after i spoke about it to manager they have turned cold. it's become hard to collaborate with anyone. Manager told me that I'm not up for stock refreshers or promo and that the goals of team may not be aligned with my skill set and if i want i can look out for a different position. I brought this up with skip level and VP (didn't bad mouth my manager but tried to talk to them about the situation) and they look like they are trying to help, but I've really lost confidence in this place becoming more conducive to being happy and growing in my career. I'm not able to trust them.

That's true. However, what strategy should I use? Interview ASAP and maybe take a lower level elsewhere because I'm not adequately prepared? Or quit and prepare at home? Or stay till something lateral comes up.
Yeah do that. Move out first. Then you can always move out to different company if you feel sal is low. Get a decent life first.
If your manager encouraged you to leave expect a PIP soon. Goals of the team not aligned with your skill set is a dead give away, if any layoffs come you’ll be first to go. Get out of there. Your skips will seem empathetic and have no reason to be mean to you, they’ll wait on the manager to handle the business.
Should I take a potentially lower level at MS should the on-site interviews go ok, or give few months leetcode and get out, to a higher TC better situation?
Applied Friday, had three phone screens this week, passed two, onsite next week. Zero leetcode 🙁 completely unprepared for this.
How long have you been a LMTS? I think LMTS at Salesforce would map to senior at Microsoft. Couple of my friends at 63 were hired as LMTS. Senior band has two levels 63 and 64. So you can try asking for 64. Best of luck

64 -> 65 is pretty hard. And not everyone is able to get that promo.
I left Microsoft after 18 years and regret it. I was Level 64 for half my career- level 65 is a trap
