FB NY vs Coinbase Remote

hi im having trouble deciding between these two opportunities as a new grad.

Tc fb (nyc):
124 base + 160/4 stock + 50k sign on (all USD)

cb (canada):
124CAD base + 37.5k USD stock

In Canada, I have family so like no expenses. In NYC, I'll be paying like 3.5k/mo for a studio. Based on my math, I'll save a lot more taking Coinbase Canada. That said, fb ny might be a lot of fun, and bootcamp is cool too. This is a weird case where remote will actually earn me more, but going to the US should be more fun.

*****I should clarify, I don't party/drink/go clubbing tbh. but, I still wanna go to museums, explore the city, try new foods, etc in ny :) ********

Also, should name be a consideration? Having facebook on the resume as a new grad would be great (although I already have it since I interned here), is Coinbase considered the same tier, or not yet?

Also though, Coinbase might boom if crypto goes big (i think 4x stock value is possible, 200b market cap, if crypto really booms) while Meta might not increase as much

I think I'll save at least 25-35k CAD per year (after tax) more by taking Coinbase. But experiencing something new might be worth it.

  • 3.5k / mo for a studio in NYC? I’m sure you can get a solid one for less than that

to clarify i meant manhattan not just nyc -- can i find something cheaper in manhattan? i've just been using streeteasy

    • For a studio? Absolutely. Streeteasy is best. 3.5k / month for a 1BR in Manhattan is already a good budget. You should net <$3k for a studio

Based on your post it seems you want to stay in your comfort zone (Canada) and take coinbase. What will excite you when you wake up in the morning? If living in Canada keeps you happy just do that.

Also yes crypto might go up but it may also fail, can go either way, no certainty yet.

honestly it's like two parts of my brain are clashing. on one hand, when im 50 (if im alive), i won't regret the difference in $, i'll have wanted to spend time in manhattan. that said, im also wondering if I'm idolizing the city, having never been there -- as someone who doesn't drink/party/etc, is there really a lot for me to do?

the "logical" part of my brain that thinks about nothing other than TC wants coinbase. The other part that wants the "vibes", and also to be in person in an office, wants fb ny! having a tough time deciding between the two haha

You might have to sell your blood/semen regularly to live in NYC if you pick the fb offer.
