to file green card in your company, do the immigration folks and attorney expect research publications and patents from software Engineers? in my org they were asking for
1. atleast 12 research publications in top tier peer reviewed journals.
2. a few patents
3. upto 6 if not 4, recommendations who worked with me or advised me. additionally, not all should be from same country.

which category they apply under and what kind of things they look for a successful green card application for software engineers?

I'm confused, they aren't asking for software releases and impact, instead they asking questions that a phd would answer well with alot of research experience.

  • If you’re neither Indian nor Chinese, ask your company to apply eb2, it will take 1 - 1.5 years. There is not much advantage of eb2niw over eb2, except you don’t need a sponsor. Without a PhD your chance of getting eb2niw is close to 0, sorry.

    • I was just trying to help. Sorry if you feel offended. I applied for eb1b, and it took me 4 months to get my gc. I have PhD and 200 citations at the time of applying. If you believe some attorneys can help you apply niw without papers, go ahead and good luck.

thank you, not offended. I'm looking for this. if i didn't here much from community, i will choose not to go through this process since, I'm not motivated to do PhD and, i think PhD for getting a GC is not worth my next 10 years. i posted this question, because i always have this question that a lot folks in IT companies who are neither engineers nor researchers, were able to get the GC filed and recieved and always curious how software Engineers make their way to gc application without having PhD, not everyone has PhD. i was looking to hear from those folks, if available on blind. i can't find this on Google. so, if you get any clue, please ping here. :)
