Up or out policy at Google

At Facebook, if you dont make it to E5 within few years, you can get fired. Would like to know if this exists at Google too. If yes, what are the timelines to reach senior engineer(equivalent of fb E5)?

It technically does but it's more…leisurely (e.g. there are L4s who have been at Google over nine years)

Its there. You could likely stay as an L4 in the same team for a long time if you do a steady Meets Exp. But when you try to transfer you'll see every manager asking why are you still at L4.

it's a joke. Google oppresses the conservatives within the company but because they are not an "underrepresented minority". micro and macro aggressions are ignored. but if you did the same to a lgbtqiaf individual it would be a reportable issue.

One-offs don't necessarily mean much. They could be protected class or have domain knowledge/special skills that aren't easily replaceable. Or super good at some specific thing but awful with people, I've seen that lots with long-term SDE2s at MS

I know a long term SDE1. He's not in danger of getting fired, because he's good at what he does, he's just good at a specific corner of the world and doesn't venture beyond that much.

      He's an exception, though.
