Amazon - Re interview

I had interviewed with Amazon for an L5 role 6 months ago and they'd down-levelled to L4.
The feedback was I had scope to improve on System Design. I had turned the offer down then.
Now a manager has reached out via LinkedIn (managers contacting directly these days?) and want me to re-enter the loop.

While I'm quite happy to do so, the Amazon loop is exhaustive and I was wondering if I could inform the HM of my previously declined offer and check if they're okay with me going through only the design round as this role is for L5?

Does that work?

Edit - Contrary to popular opinion, the HM turned my request down and has asked me go through the entire loop again. Thanks for voting.

  • If you passed the loop last time then don’t go for a loop again. Go for a phone conversation for an hour or so. Full loop or mini loop is stressful.

Don’t go through a full loop. Insist on an L5 position and do a HM interview or a mini loop. They are desperate—that’s why that are reaching out to you. You’re in the catbird seat.

As long as it’s an L5 position. You need to insist on that. They are beyond desperate—that’s why they are contacting you. Tons of L5 folks are leaving Amazon and AWS right now.

    • Ah, thanks for replying to my question... and good for those people! It is most often the case that folks who stay for a while get the worst deal with their compensation, compared to newcomers.

True, but most of the folks leaving haven’t been there but for a year or 18 months. It’s a good place to work, learn, get your TC leveled up, etc. But you really do have to reevaluate at the 1 year mark and double down in terms of staying, or be interviewing to move on or get a “Dive and Save.” A D&S is when you get an external offer at more pay and then Amazon matches it so you can get more money without getting a promotion.

Does probably not work if it’s a different role.

The manager doesn’t have a choice to give you in this matter. A bar raiser won’t allow this. Even re looping this fast a BR probably would shoot down, but only if they caught it early enough.
