Canadians in the Bay

Do you miss home? I know we don't miss the weather but I miss living in a progressive country with a better dating pool. I feel like all the guys from here are fuckboys or mama's boys. Moreover, the openly racist and backwards American society and president, and the superficiality/fake people are just plain awful. I know it is wrong to generalize but I feel like the average Canadian is just much more cultured, intelligent, kind than the average American.

The Bay area may be considered "diverse" but the culture doesn't come close to Toronto. Of course the money that I'm making here is better, but COL absolutely sucks. Has anyone moved back? I would miss the warm weather but I know it would feel so good to be home. Not to mention not having to deal with all the visa BS would be wonderful. #canada #bayarea #tech

The fuck boy and slut culture here is pretty tiring, not because of the hookup culture, but because they're actually quite selfish, yet like to think of themselves as activist, caring people. It's that latter part that really is hard to stomach.

I've never had friends ghost as easily/frequently back in Canada as in the US, who still post a bunch of stuff about the environment and BLM.

    • VMware- SO on point...it never occurred to me. Explains why I always equally uncomfortable with the Dems and Pubes in this country.

Immigrants (a sizable voting block in general and especially in California) are usually far to the right of Republicans. If the police started rounding up and brazenly executed drug dealers in broad daylight, no first generation immigrant group is going to make noise. In fact, a lot will secretly support it. I know several Indians and Chinese who have voiced support for something similar in SF.

LGBTQ stuff is a big no no for Indians, Chinese, Hispanics, etc. They may claim to support it but this is only as long as it is not in their own family. An Indian team lead I worked with once said that while he supports LGBTQ rights, if his son says he's gay he will beat it out of him.

Techies in general are extremely pro capitalist. They claim to support social programs only to look woke or because they simply aren't affected much by it. There is a reason NIMBYism is a thing in the bay area.

For all their claims of diversity, nobody will buy a house and raise their family in a "diverse" neighborhood. Indians, Chinese and Whites are ok. Any more diversity and it's a problem. I've gotten unsolicited advice to avoid Hispanic and Black neighborhoods while buying homes by people who claim to be leftist despite me never planning on buying in the first place.

The Republicans have accepted who they are while the Dems are still lying. I'm closer to being a libertarian but I'm not eligible to vote. I would likely vote Republican if I could.

Miss the Canadian culture for sure. People are super polite and considerate. No homeless people. But for the short term probably wont move back due to salary differences. I do know a few folks that moved back to GTA after having kids.

Are you white OP? I'm brown (Indian) and I've found Europe to be the most racist and the US the least with Canada falling between Europe and the US but closer to the US on that scale.

This is assuming only developed countries. It gets worse otherwise.

Never worked in Canada but I hear it is much more easygoing (assuming you have "Canadian experience") and talent is not as valued as in the US which means people who play politics can get ahead comparatively easier. I've never heard of any Indian who wants to go to Canada over the US once you remove the insane GC backlog. Even with the backlog far more people prefer the US over Canada.

I've never heard of Indians moving or planning to move after getting their GC or citizenship. I know this can be called anecdotal evidence but I'm willing to bet that if such a case exists, it's because of other extenuating circumstances (like family in Canada).

Of course, some people move because of the GC backlog times and they value stability. This I can understand but it has nothing to do with racism.

India ranks as the #1 most racist country in the world and the irony of this comment made me chuckle
