Hi,
Looking to move from an associate role in IB to VC. Any tips on what’s the best places to go and what’s the best path forward in VC?

Currently got an entry level offer at a place where deal flow and experience is good but bad comp. Should I take it to have a foot in the door?

Thanks!

Yeah this happened to me for my first 2 roles. On to my next and will not commit to anything unless I get what I want. How can you not be bitter if you're worked to the bones with fear of inflation and market crashing all while still not being able to buy a house -.-

Took TC cut twice for a startup (but not equity). Airbnb worked out nice. The other startup went under. As long as the TC cut comes with other upside (equity, WLB, change in industry or function) it can we worth it. But TC cut for sake of it is never worth it

As a junior in VC the comp is really bad because of the “prestige” of the job.

This is a long term move, if the fund is Tier 1 and has done exceptional deals (think if it landed Airbnb, Coinbase, Stripe, Lydt, Uber etc type of deals), then it makes sense.

Otherwise no. If you choose to go and you start hating the job, you will not be able to recruit to other funds because the job market is very illiquid and all based on connections.

Just curious, what kind of TC are we talking about for these VC roles?
