i am currently in first yr of F1 OPT. my h1b petition(under CHANGE OF STATUS and not Consular, so my h1b would kick in on 1st Oct on its own) is under review by uscis and has been filed via premium processing.
assuming i get an approval in the next few days, should one file for opt extension even then? i have been told that once my h1b is approved, any application for opt extension would stand null and void.
i ask this because what if h1b after approval, is rejected whenever I go for ‘stamping’, which i know is rare!

Also, I think you need to file for the STEM extension within 90 days of the expiration date. If it’s timely filed you get a 180 day extension while your STEM decision is pending.
So yes, I would advise you have a backup, especially in the current political climate.
