LeetCode Prep Guidance

4d 11 Comments

Hi Blind,

I'm not from a CS background but am wanting to make a move in SD. I've begun from scratch and it's been 2.5 months. I've been practicing LeetCode and am good in solving "easy". When it comes to Medium however, I'm able to solve (although not through the most optimal solution always) but it doesn't always "Submit". It passes through some test cases but not all.

How should I overcome this? Also what's a realistic timeline to get over the curve and be comfortable in solving medium? I know this is subjective but I literally have no reference point to get help from. I haven't even looked at any hard problem on Leetcode for now.

Thanks,

TC: 130K #tech #leetcode #leetcodemedium

I’m following as I too need to ramp up my interview prep: if you look up on leetcode study section “interview patterns” lots of great resources. I am about to do the same for backtracking as there’s a skeletal algo you can learn that applies to most backtracking problems aka for (permutations 1&2, combination sum 1&2, digits in a phone number etc)

If you don’t want to pay for premium, the discussion section has good answers. You should really just get premium though. For me personally I bet the ROI on leetcode has been thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars per hour (not exaggerating). For top tech companies you should be able to solve mediums quickly. I would recommend using or getting good at a scripting language (python, ruby, JavaScript) for interviews even if you are mainly backend.

Don’t worry about only being on easy, it’s just practice. Just don’t give up on the problems and actually try for a while before looking up the answers.
