There is a couple people I know become manager in amazon with like 3 years of experience. And as far as I know they are not even senior and they barely made software eng II. This is almost unheard of at FB since you need to make E5 at least to become a manger. I am wondering how is this possible at Amazon, and is this only for internal promo or external hires with a couple years of experience can apply for a management position as well? What are the pros and cons of this career progression?

The con is that it's a role where you don't really have a lot of political power and it's essentially a non terminal role where you eventually will have to move up or out.
