Do you now or in the future need visa sponsorship question

Sep 11, 2020 29 Comments

This question is on almost any job application and recently some people told me that if you need visa just put No to that question now so that you are not automatically disqualified then later if you got interview then just explain your situation. I have not done this before but does this strategy work to get more interviews? Will you have any trouble later if they dismiss you because of your answer to job application?

dont waste your time by answering no.
if you are competent enough you will find a job where they will sponsor for your interview.
Dont lie in your job application.

You are going to lie about visa? You’re selected then you reveal that you need visa, what next? How do they change company policy? They will point out that you mentioned otherwise meaning you intentionally provided incorrect information? You really want to go this route?

Some of the FAANG roles require you to be a citizen. Some roles are not worth the sponsorship cost. Or some jobs require immediate join date Let's say you lie today and you get the job tomorrow and you reveal that you need visa all of a sudden. Boom. You loose your credibility and will be blacklisted from other potential jobs as well. Plenty of resumes otherwise get through the screening. It's not like they will filter you out just because they can't afford visa. If you're not getting responses then there's something wrong with your profile or you're not applying to the right jobs

And this is why the program would get cursed even more. First it’s driving down wages and next is people who lie on their profile. Please don’t bring these dirty values here with you.

  • As hiring manager, I would treat this as fraud and would never want to hire such a candidate who lied on application. Every question on the application form exists for a reason, we may want to know if it is feasible to bring in a candidate who need sponsorship as the position may need someone to start immediately. Answering Yes to thay question would never automatically disqualify a talented candidate, if it is we would put in the job description that those with sponsorship need not apply. There is no discrimination in this case as need sponsorship is not a protected class. If you can lie on the application then how can we be sure of your integrity? We would not want candidate who blatantly ignore the rule.

I would answer yes to this and put on my resume on top that I need sponsorship. I wouldn’t want to waste anyone’s time if they don’t sponsor they don’t. No one can go roundabout as this visa.
