Hi All,
I was pipped in last week of Oct and I have been trying to find opportunities outside. I have few interview lined up this month (phone screen rounds and an MSFT onsite) but I was also investing time in the pip task as manager said he would cut short the pip duration if he sees no progress. Since I am a H1B visa holder , I started looking out for contract jobs too and I have offers from two of them. They want me to accept the offer asap by next week but I have few interviews (full time) lined up and I want to attend those first.
Additionally my manager is asking for status everyday. I cannot tolerate the stress but I need time to prepare. I was confident that I would come out of the dev plan as I accomplished all the tasks and worked insane works. I am diagnosed with depression so my therapist and physicians are already suggesting me to take a medical leave. I am looking for the FMLA option and have few questions:
1) Will it be a problem during H1B transfer if I go on a FMLA leave as I will be on an unpaid leave?
2) How many weeks of leave can I get if I submit a letter from therapist and physician ( I am having some medical issues too due to hypertension and stress)
3) What is the procedure to apply FMLA?
4) When is the right time to take it considering the approval takes sometime.
Also can you folks guide me what should I do : accept contract job and keep giving interviews or finish interviews and keep contract job as a last resort?
I’m mentally exhausted with all this, I’m so tired overthinking and reiterating on this situation that I don’t even feel like talking about it anymore so I’m not gonna share what , why and how I got into this shitty situation. I did my best, complaint against manager did not go well for me and not sure what to do. I have back to back interviews and I’m not prepared my mind is always foggy and I’m nervous during interviews.
Can someone please share some tips/suggestions on how should I plan on scheduling interviews so I can prepare and focus on one at a time.

Now, my solution:
1. Say Yes to one of the contract roles/companies. They will start your visa transfer process and let them know you would join after the trasnfer approval.
2. Visa transfer takes time, atleast 1 month.
3. Do minimal with your PIP work.
4. Concentrate mostly on the full time job interviews you have. If possible expediate the process with them saying you have other offers.
5. If full time interviews take longer, just join contract job and keep interviewing. If you get it, quit contract and jum ship
6. if you get full time when your h1b transfer is approved but haven’t joined contract role and if you have time (60 day window) for another h1b transfer receipt, reject the contract at this point and go with the other offer. Happens frequently with companies, do not need to feel any guilt given your situation. If you don’t have enough time (60 day window), repeat 5.
Lastly, I have no idea about FMLA.
I'd be a bit more worried about the H1B transfer though, not sure how that would work if it's in process when they want to transfer
In order to get interview in FMLA, if you have friends in the companies ask for referral. The fastest way is to buy a LinkedIn premium and spam HR in each company. I did it for several times. Every time works.
Continue the interviews you have in process but mention to the recruiters that your timeline has changed.
New jobs won't really care that you have only been a few months in previous position. Worst thing is you say you wanted to try consulting but it's not for you!
Only thing to consider is that I think you need to be 1 year at a company to take FMLA, so you can only do it at Amazon. But I think they might have to approve it, and they might not... But I think your first order of business should be to try to apply for FMLA to see what the attitude is. Accept the consulting job regardless, and move your interviews up a bit. This should all be fine with everyone involved.
