I get a bunch of emails from recruiting agencies working with Finance/Hft like Tower, Citadel, 2S, etc. I’m pretty certain if I apply directly to this companies they will reach out to me as well. What advice would you fintech people give - should I work through an agency or apply directly to the company.

Unless you have direct experience in the industry using a recruiter is probably not a terrible idea. During my last job hunt I went independent and with a recruiter and found that the recruiter facilitated things quite a bit. Lots of people apply so it’s hard to get past the website sometimes

  • These are not fintech companies.

In my experience the recruiters don't really increase your chances, but its worth a try. They are kind of useless but it's nice to have someone else who can pester the internal HR people.

Try both. Recruitment takes time. Cold applications have a very high rejection rate.

  • Apply directly. No benefit in having a third party recruiter unless they connect you with a tiny obscure firm that you didn’t know about otherwise.

  • I just had an interview with citadel through a third party recruiter. Told me I was interviewing for one position then told me it’s actually two positions. Did one online coding and two phone interviews. Never heard back from the recruiter. I would have preferred if I was directly working with the in house recruiter.
