Should I Pick FAANG vs. Smaller Company Core Group

Apr 27 4 Comments

I'm struggling to make the decision between 2 opportunities:

1. The first one is with one of the FAANG, 300k+ total comp, a big increase from my current comp. But it's not working on the core business, the impact and learning opportunities are quite limited for this opportunity.

2. One of the leading meal kit companies, 200k+ total, not much increase from my current comp. But will be working on the core product recommendation, a lot of engineering challenges, impacts, and learning opportunities.

Personally, I'm leaning towards Option 2, but the 100k+ comp difference is giving me a hard time making the decision. Which one should I pick? And I appreciate any advice!

  • this should be a no brainer, just go with the faang and switch teams internally if you stagnate

Meal kit companies don't have that much of a technical moat or any other kind of moat and will likely create a market only to be pushed out by better capitalized, late entrants.

The only reason to not join FAANG is it your resume already has that calibre of company on it.

Go with the FAANG, it's easier to get opportunities like #2, especially after FAANG.
