  • Anything apart from G and MS is shit. But FB you atleast get to choose a team after some research. In coinbase you interview for a team and you will never know. Neither can you switch teams afterwards when you get to know

    Not sure about coinbase but wlb at FB is just fine. Varies a bit from team to team. The company is the size of google two years ago I think, it is moving very slowly now. Expectations stay high but I think standard within tech. You do need to have the courage to say no. It helps to have a good manager, PM, or tech lead, or director, who is OK with pushing roadmap items to keep their team, rather than the other way around.

    But things will generally be hectic. A bit team dependent. You just have to detach yourself from all the reorgs and reprio, and say no.

    If you're trying to get promoted then it's a different story as reprio and reorgs will shit your plans a bit and you'll have to work more to make up for it. In general though, it really isn't bad. Also, being the person on the team with initiatives about improving WLB will be recognized as impact for performance review.

      @Amazon: there is no such thing as "negative impact". What we mean by "impact" @ FB is "added value". Negative impact is just called messing up.

      @Compass: any org. It's fine overall. As I said, the company is too big now and moves slowly. WLB is just on par with peers across the board. You could end up in a bad spot but that's the exception more than the rule. Also, if you go through bootcamp you can look ask for the "pulse survey" results which will show you the rating for WLB for that particular team. You can also asks the engs on the team for oncall load and all. Really, I wouldn't worry about it.
