I’m currently a seasoned SDE2 at amazon. Been doing well, get good projects and see path to the next level SDE3 at least per manager feedback.
At same time I’m hitting 4 years and will not be getting as much stock as I used to from Amazon. Got ping from FB and Google recruiter and decided to give a try. passed phone screen with ease and is preparing onsite.
But Today when I check career website for fb and google for Seattle location, I can only find very few team I’m interested in. I think since Seattle is not FB and Google HQ, there is disadvantage interm of project selections, visibility and decision influencing.
Folk at fb and google in Seattle/Kirkland do you experience this limitation in your daily work? Are you doing project you enjoy?
I like what I’m doing at Amazon and scared I will be match to boring team if I leave.

When you're 4-5 months away from 4 years start talking to your manager and express concern about your future earnings. They will generally make sure you're in line with your pay grade. If you don't like it, or want more, state that too.
If you are indeed valuable, there will be no issues in securing extra funding for you. If that doesn't happen, an SDE3 like yourself should have 0 problems landing a gig elsewhere.
Life is to short for worry and what-ifs.
