a) Is the team selection process totally Autonomous ? Does employee has full freedom to choose teams and sub teams?
b) I am sure it depends on headcount. But, what team has no headcount as of now.
c) Is the process mutual? How much knowledge/influence does hiring manager has about ones interview performance. Can he say no to someone. Assuming employee is not douche bag etc
d) Do you only get to pick those hiring manager who said yes during the candidate review committee process.
This is for ML role and post boot camp.

a) Yes. Full Freedom.
Sub teams are not a thing at Facebook. You have a team and it has a goal. You may be in an org (or in a hierarchy of them) , which has a looser goal but you influence it via team goal.
b) There are teams that don't hire out of Bootcamp (only internal transfers) , but there are many ML positions and I haven't heard about headcount limits being a problem.
c) as far as I know. Managers cannot say no. But they rarely do.
d) Many people are soft or hard preallocated. Soft = you can try working with other teams but people rarely defect on this. Hard = business need dictates you must join the hiring team.
I don't know about the candidate review committee thing. I'm not sure thats how it works even for people coming from other companies. Have they told you about specific teams that wanted you?
