They're generally a scam. When I see a company offering Unlimited PTO as a benefit it makes me think they work their people into the ground.

It’s culture dependent. You have places that do it to avoid paying out vacation, but more often than not it’s because the place actively tries to encourage employees to have good wlb.

When I worked at Workday I took 6 weeks a year minimum.

  • Last company I worked at had unlimited PTO. I used to take a week off every quarter and we also got 7-8 days off towards the end of the year. It all depends on you to take the vacation. Also, do not feel guilty for taking a vacation as you are only taking a benefit that was offered to you by your employer.

I am not the type to be made to feel guilty by a corporation, so I feel maybe I could be ok with the unlimited policy

We have that at the company I'm at

No issues getting stuff approved, ultimately you just need to pull your weight regardless of the amount of holidays

Unlimited PTO is not worth it. You cannot take guilt free vacations.

at Upwork, we have unlimited PTO but when I tried to take 3 weeks off, was told that they don't allow you to take more than 2 weeks off consecutively. So the policy is basically is a lie.
