I have ~25k eligible for investment in my HSA account. Two of low cost funds available are VIIIX and VBMPX. Any recommendation on which fund to choose (or a combination). Other funds available are high cost Target funds.

That's pretty impressive with the low annual limits. You've been on HDHP's for the last 5+ years?

These 2 are just about risk tolerance. If you know you won't touch it anytime soon, get the former. If you are expecting a big medical expense, get the latter.

Thanks. Yeah about 5 years on HSA. Would you recommend a split of these two?

In the overall picture, if you're thinking of the HSA as potential buffer for qualified expenses, split would be good. If you are treating it as a retirement account, then all stocks. Possibly DCA if you don't feel comfortable w/ current indices.

Just curious, how were you paying for medical expenses last 5 years? All out of pocket or used some HSA?

I would invest in VBMPX, it's more diverse than VIIIX. I wouldn't even bother splitting as VBMPX covers VIIIX.
