Hi all,

I have been applying for about 6 months for Program/Product Manager roles at FAANGMULA+ and everything else but have not got any positive response. I have redone my resume and seeking the community feedback to improve my resume further.

EDIT: Thank you to each and everyone of you who took the time to review and provide provide feedback. It provided a good reality check for me and helped me identify the areas that I need to work on, not just for the resume but also from a long term career perspective.

Cheers!!

I'm in a dilemma whether to go for ms in us (ms in CS at UIC) or work in India for 2 years as a graduate trainee engineer. Any suggestions... please dm me

  • WTF is a program / product manager. Start there. You don’t even know what job you’re applying for.

I would get rid of experiences that doesn't contribute to your goal of being in product management. Also, your overall background doesn't seem to match what FAANG looking for in PM.I would apply for PM positions at smaller tech companies

From my experience in FAANG, PMs are mainly dumbasses that got through a top-tier MBA program somehow

Then again I work at amazon so ymmv

To give you an idea of my team and their background:
PM 1 is Stanford undergrad CS, grad CS, grad Management Science and Eng. McKinsey, Microsoft PM, now here.
PM 2 is CMU CS, unicorn startup SWE/PM experience, other FAANG PM, now here.
PM 3 is IIT, other FAANG SWE, unicorn PM, here.
PM 4 is MIT CS, Microsoft PM, here.
PM 5 is top 5 LAC Econ, HBS Research Associate,
Peace Corps, M7 MBA, other FAANG, here.

Quite frankly I don’t see this resume hitting that bar. No experience in software, no gold plated schools or other experience, no PM background at all. Your best bet is Amazon Program Manager to non-tech PM- be willing to start at L5.

Lots of text and unnecessary information, go with less is more and make the CV overall easier to read and scan. For example group your College achievements under your college experience, personally I wouldn't mention being captain at the College Basketball team anymore, surely you have better and more recent leadership examples.
Also "Technical Skills: Office 365" is a HUGE red flag, but maybe thats the tech bubble speaking

Target non-tech program manager positions. It's a lot of text so a recruiter might not read through it. Personally, I'd also like to see how you achieved the impacts you are mentioning.

Usually the sentence structure is achieved x by doing y as measurable with z or something like that? But yes I know what you're saying, it does take some playing around

An example: second sentence in the last bullet point under program manager doesn’t really add anything. It’s too generic and unrelatable, and basically just tells the recruiter β€œI reviewed something, found ways to do it better, then did it”.

OP, you’ve got a lot in your resume, and the core of it looks pretty good. Now, try to eliminate what you can to make your resume as short as possible without removing any of that meat.

Then, if you find that you have too much white space, dig deep to find other major achievements that are tied to metrics, or try your best to integrate any other keywords that relate to your skills that prospective employers would like to see.
