Collection of failures and lessons learned
I'm just venting. Because I have to. End of last year I decided to change jobs so I decided to start replying to recruiters on LinkedIn. I did little to no LC in preparation so I know this is all on me. Still, it takes a toll. I still feel like I'm an impostor and a failure sometimes.
Anyway, I decided to make a list of my failures just because.
Didn't get past the recruiter conversation:
- Slack*
- Github*
- SurveyMonkey
Failed at the Online Assessment:
- Amazon
Failed at the Phone Screen:
- Facebook
- Square*
- Salesforce* (interviewed with 2 teams: the first one decide to go with an internal candidate and the second decided the role couldn't be remote anymore. No other team was interested after that)
- Netflix
- Pandora (phone screen)
Failed at the Onsite:
- Amazon
- Glassdoor*
- Microsoft*
- eBay
- Jitterbit
I had one offer:
- BlackRock (declined)
* Positions I applied for.
Lesson learned: grind LC. A lot. All questions I got were LC easy and medium. If I had prepared better this post could have been different. Also, make sure you prepare yourself mentally for the interviews so you can remain calm. My phone screen with Netflix was ridiculously easy but I still managed to a catastrophic screw up because I got into the call nervous and expecting to fail because of maybe an LC hard; I did fail, likely as a consequence of that. And failing because you got an easy problem wrong does mess you up mentally.
So, there you go. 13 failures between October/2020 and June/2021. Now I'll take it serious and grind freaking LC. F*&! this Sh#!.
I am starting to regret declining the BlackRock offer.

I applied at Lyft but they didnโt even reply to my application.
