Earlier I was working for a non-faang company. Ppl used to troll me on blind. Now that I'm in a faang, there is hardly any trolling with me.

LOL. Stupid blinders. Giving way too much importance to useless and temporary things.

My take is that people are just expressing their true selves. Maybe many people in real life look down on your previous jobs but they didn't say it to your face.

This certainly seems to be the case.

But associating job directly with company sounds ridiculous IMO. I am sure there are a bunch of extremely routine/mundane jobs (and ppl) at best companies and vice versa.

Maybe people are/were projecting their own insecurities onto you. Working for a prestigious company is prestigious. Sometimes when we (humans) are afraid of something (in this case, lack of popularity, FOMO, lack of prestige, lack of control/influence over our surroundings, etc) we have negative emotions associated with anything that conjures up that fear in us. These fears are natural - our brains evolved this way to ensure our personal survival. Not working for one of the most prestigious firms implies that the person is not good enough to work for one of those firms. This implies weakness, stupidity, a lack of passion or seriousness about their life’s work, etc. - in less words: a lack of control/influence over ones surroundings. Because I (as a human) am afraid of not having control over my environment (it makes me feel unsafe), I (as a human) may experience negative emotions when seeing someone else who lacks the control I desire. It reminds me of my own vulnerability and mortality. I can then regain a sense of feeling like I am in control if I detest, embarrass, or otherwise show disdain for others whom I have judged are not in control of their environment.

That's the sad truth. Imagine how many nice people around the world are treated badly because they don't have a"Social status"

Welcome (or not) to the EU! 🇪🇺
      It's not racist, we swear!
We just like to judge people on their nationality, not their character

      You mean like black people?

Not to victimize them, but the bias hate they get from Blind and in general is usually devoid of taking into account historical American context. Everyone assumes they are not qualified. or criminals. Even qualified blacks see nasty bias.

They tend to be scapegoats for many high level issues.

  • Ppl are judged on their social status all the time.
Your company has huge implications on your TC, which in turn has huge implications on your social status, so what's so surprising about that?

Maybe OP expected engineers to be slightly smarter & respectful. Who knew even most tech folks are a bunch of illogical idiots?
