I recently interviewed with LivePerson for a senior leadership position in one of their fast growing organizations.
We were off a good start. The communication with the recruiter was flowing, they were flexible with my schedule. I've had 1 informal chat with the hiring manager, after which I have scheduled additional round of interviews: Executive team members, including their CTO. In total, 5-6 leadership interviews and 1 systems design interview. All chats went really well, and I have received a positive feedback that the team would like to proceed with an offer.
And it all went downhill from there. After 2 weeks of silence, they suggested I had another chat with the hiring manager. That chat went also great, they've shared that they had great candidates and found one particularly amazing candidate for the role I was interviewing for. So they'd like to offer me another, less senior role, reporting to the candidate they're extending the offer for. We have discussed next steps and the timeline. They said they were very interested in extending an offer to me. I have not verbally accepted but was rather interested in seeing the scope and responsibilites of the new role, and last but not least, the financial side of the offer. I've been very patiently waiting and checking-in from time to time on the progress. I've got silence as a response. After 4 weeks of never hearing from them, they sent me n robotic email a-la "Thanks for applying...". I have never received an offer I was promised by LivePerson.
@Liveperson, I have only one question: If you are treating external candidates so badly, how do you treat your internal employees? Here are specific things you could improve:
- Close the loop with the candidates. It does not matter, whether one applies for a senior/junior/executive/individual contributor role. It is essential that you provide the candidate with feedback upon their request.
- Silence is not going to help in communication in the final step of the interviewing process. It's like that kid playing hide and seek by closing their eyes and thinking no one can see them. Good candidates that you extend a verbal offer to should be treated with respect. You treating them with silence shows no respect. Do you think they would recommend your company to other high profile candidates? You are basically cutting off the branch on which you sit. Tech is a small world, and if you treat external people like s***, no one would like to join your company. Treat all candidates with due respect.
- Recruiter/hiring manager communication is lost here. I guess this could depend on a specific hiring manager and a specific recruiter. In my case, I was told great things by the leadership team, but in reality I got turned down with an automated email from the recruiter! The only thing I can think of here is the lack of communication between the recruiter and HM. They were not on the same page.
@Future candidates, don't waste your time interviewing with this company. A company that treats external people like s***, cannot treat internal folks well. This company does not deserve your precious time! #liveperson #interview
