One of my clients received an offer for an entry level SWE role - and after having a phone chat with the Director of Growth (they have no HR) where he asked if the rate was negotiable and if there was a sign-on bonus. They replied they don't offer bonuses and this is the base salary -
he replied that he understood, and accepts the offer, then the Director of Growth said no and "we will send the offer to you in 1-2 days."

24 hours later he received an email that they will not be moving forward with him... extremely different than the offer that was discussed.

What would you do?

🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩 wouldn't work with them in the future. I've heard of other managers who get offended when candidates negotiate - it's always been shitty companies that don't pay well and want employees that don't expect to be paid for their work

Sometimes people are on the fence for entry levels and want the person who is happy with the comp. It can speak to bad expectations or entitlement. I’ve only seen this happen for entry levels and I don’t disagree. Learn what the market comp is and take an entry level if it’s comparable. Entry levelers are a dime a dozen.

I understand that perspective, especially for entry-level -- it would be beneficial if companies could then state "this is the offer, and it is a non-negotiable offer" or similar
