Hello Blind! I would love to get some feedback and advice with my resume. I want to apply for more equity research positions or consulting..more finance related career options. I just graduated undergrad in May and am not content with my current job so want to start applying again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Please DM! Thanks in advance!

You need to run away from Bloomberg as fast as you can.

The longer you stay there, the harder it will be to get a real job that isn’t either a glorified tech support or sales job.

The only way you’re getting into equity research at a good firm is if you graduated from a target and have solid analysis and modeling skills. Consulting looks at different set of skills and knowledge.

Narrow it down because those are two totally different fields.

Started in coverage at Merrill and now PE at a family office. Currently considering trying to get back into IB just because I find the work to be more gratifying then what I do now.

I agree with what you said—they want you to become a ‘Bloomberg terminal specialist,’ which seems great on paper but then you realize none of it actually translates into a real career in the markets.

It’s a brilliant scam. They rope in bright econ and finance undergrads with a starting salary that rivals top tier firms and an enticing job description.

Consulting requires and fosters a unique set of skills. Mainly comes down to designing and executing realistic solutions to complex problems, with limited data. Lots of hands-on/client-site exposure to different companies, management, and problems.

If you’re not a people person or you cant think outside the box then it’s not for you. (Look up McKinsey practice cases. Do these kinds of problems excite you?)

Equity researchers are finance specialists. It comes down to analyzing company fundamentals, macro- micro-market factors, sensitivity analyses, etc and translating all of that into a model. Once you’re part of a research desk another big part of the job is articulating the research in a digestible manner.

I’m know I’m rambling but I want you to know what you’re getting into and have some realistic expectations.
